Before I go into detail and give you a verdict on the new Porsche Cayman, I will share with you my initial thoughts that came to mind, when I first saw the real pics of the Cayman.
First thoughts that came to my mind:
Why?
It's the coolest looking Mazda ever.
I wouldn't personally buy it.
If you have 65K, what's another 5-10k for a 911?
Why not bring out a lower price Boxster?
Why not a base 997 for 65K?
Same fate as the M Coupe, although not as ugly?
Are there really that many customers asking for this?
$65K...that's a lot of dough for what you get!
That said, here is my verdict:
I'll give the Cayman a B-minus for it's intial grade.
Not bad looking although it does not deliver on the promise that it would be the best looking sports car Porsche makes.
It's also the most 'Asian' looking product Porsche has ever made in my opinion.
Overall it is kind of cool, but I don't think the market is there for the car (outside of the intial adopters who will buy anything with a prestige badge on it).
I like the performance specs most of all but do you want 911 owners to know for $10K less another Porsche will KILL it on a track?
I would have made a $65K base price 911 if I was running things.
Do you agree with me or am I way off here?
