Porsche's Four-Door Panamera to Share Factory and Powertrain Wwith Cayenne

STUTTGART, Germany — Porsche has held off making an official announcement about its fifth model line — a four-door coupe to be called Panamera — until the Frankfurt show in September. But tidbits keep leaking out in Europe.
German news magazine Der Spiegel has revealed details of the car, claiming the body of the front-engine, rear-drive coupe-sedan will be built by MagnaSteyr in Austria. The magazine reported the body shells would be trucked to the factory in Leipzig, Germany, where Porsche's successful Cayenne luxury SUV is assembled.
The Panamera is expected to use the same engines and transmissions as the Cayenne, plus other compatible systems, including all-wheel drive on its top-range versions. The new car will be powered by the Cayenne's 4.5-liter V8 in both normally aspirated and turbocharged forms, with the flagship version using a "softened" edition of the midengine Carrera GT's 5.7-liter, 40-valve V10.
A concept is likely to be shown at Frankfurt in September, with the full-production version ready to go on sale in 2007.

The car will be powered by the same engines in the Porsche Cayenne. This means a 4.5 liter V8 making 340bhp and a turbocharged version with 450bhp. Good blend of fun and practicality!
The roof line is tall for easy entry and it would likely be a front-engine with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive if it is really going to be based on the Phaeton chassis. That’s what most rumours say right now. After all, the Porsche Cayenne SUV was based on a jointly developed platform which Volkswagen used for the Volkswagen Touareg.
The car is instantly recognisable as a Porsche with those trademark headlamps.

I saw it near the Phileo Damansara traffic lights. Later we saw the car again in a traffic jam. My friend told me it had a Porsche logo on it and I didn’t believe him. The car did not look Porsche at all.

Angetrieben wird es durch einen Frontmotor mit Heckantrieb. Die nach 911, Boxster und Cayenne nun vierte Baureihe des Stuttgarter Automobilherstellers erhält den Namen "Panamera" - abgeleitet von dem legendären Langstreckenrennen Carrera Panamericana - und soll 2009 auf den Markt kommen. Die Gesamtinvestitionen einschließlich des Entwicklungsaufwandes für diese Baureihe werden sich für Porsche auf gut eine Milliarde Euro belaufen und wieder aus eigenen Mitteln finanziert. Die geplante Absatzzahl liegt bei mindestens 20.000 Einheiten pro Jahr.

Fuera Panamera
Yo no estoy de acuerdo con la aparición de este nuevo modelo.
Irrumpe en el mercado para competir con el S6 de audi, la serie 5, M5 de BMW y coches así, sedan deportivos. La idea no me parece mal, tiene sentido si lo miramos bajo un prisma empresarial, pero con relación a la marca y la idea que tiene la gente sobre ésta, afecta negativamente.
Para mí es abrir mercado, vale, la pasta y demás, pero es como una aberración un Porsche con 4 puertas. ¿habéis visto alguno alguna vez? fuera de proyectos e ideas ejm: el 928, el 996 (hay fotos de un 4 puertas), no verdad.
Un sedan en Porsche.....seguro que es precioso y muy fiable y potente, pero yo no me lo compraría, a pesar d ela buena imagen y presencia que tiene.

Acaba de aprobarse el desarrollo y producción del primer coupé de cuatro plazas de Porsche: el Panamera. Este vehículo llegará al mercado en 2009.

El nuevo Porsche Panamera ya es una realidad y no porque físicamente ya exista, sino porque el Consejo de Dirección de la marca alemana ha dado luz verde al proyecto de desarrollo del coche. Llegará al mercado europeo en 2009.
Por el momento, poco se conoce del nuevo modelo, pero sabemos que se trata de coupé deportivo, de cuatro plazas y cuatro puertas, con propulsión trasera y con el motor colocado en la parte delantera.
El nombre del deportivo proviene de la “Carrera Panamericana”, una legendaria competición de largo recorrido que Porsche ganó hace décadas.
Para el desarrollo, producción y comercialización del modelo se van a invertir 1.000 millones de euros; la empresa quiere vender 20.000 unidades al año a partir de 2009.
Aún no está decidida la ubicación de la producción, pero todo parece indicar que será en la planta alemana de Leipzig. Si finalmente se monta allí, habrá que ampliar las instalaciones, ya que, en la actualidad, se ensamblan allí el todo terreno Cayenne y el Carrera GT.
El desarrollo y producción del nuevo Panamera creará un millar de nuevos puestos de trabajo en Stuttgart y en Leipizig.
Para Wendelin Wiedeking, presidente de Porsche, el coche es un producto muy meditado y en la compañía les ha costado tomar la decisión final precisamente por eso: no querían aventurarse. Sin embargo, una vez que ya lo tienen claro, asegura el presidente, “el Panamera es el coche ideal para Porsche, tiene el ADN típico y característico de un genuino deportivo. En términos de prestaciones, de diseño y de dinámica de conducción se encuentra a la altura de las expectativas de Porsche en todos los aspectos”.

No seais tan puristas amigos que seguro que cuando veamos uno por la calle se nos caera la baba... Que pensasteis entonces cuando salio el 914, 924, 928, 944, 968... o el cayenne!!! A mi juicio cualquier hierro que tenga el escudo de Porsche se merece mi respeto y admiracion pues seguro que su espiritu es el mismo que el del primer 356.

Yo también creo que exagerais un poco, a mi me parece que si el resultado final se parece al diseño que hay aqui arriba; es una verdadera pasada de bonito. Ya estamos con que si no tiene motor trasero, si no va refrigerado por aire, si es un 4X4, que si la abuelita fuma.
Si lleva el escudo delante, es un Porsche y se acabaron las historias. En la variedad está el gusto, si hay amplitud de modelos siempre habrá uno que encaje dentro de los gustos de cada uno.
Que no te gusta el Cayenne? pues comprate el que te guste y San Seacabo. Pero a que al amigo Hellion si le gusta?. Y vete a decirle que no es un Porsche. Eah! Otra vez me he quedao solo.
